Entrepreneurship education for seniors and adults with fewer opportunities

Project Overview

Project: Entrepreneurship education for seniors and adults with fewer opportunities

Duration: 01.11.2020 – 30.09.2022

Reference Nr. 2020-1-NL01-KA204-064748

Grant Amount: 279,848 EUR

Donor: Nationaal Agentschap Erasmus+ Onderwijs & Training, the Netherlands National Agency for the Erasmus+ programme.

What's About

The motivation for this project was to equip seniors and adults with fewer opportunities with a set of skills needed for personal development in the areas of entrepreneurial intelligence and creating (self-)employment opportunities, proactively in today’s reality of employment insecurity and the world of extinction of many familiar jobs and occupations now and even more so in the future. This new needed capacity was entrepreneurial intelligence – a competence trained and developed through the acquisition of various skills, knowledge and attitudes through quality non-formal adult education. After analysing the results, we identified the following needs and problems in our communities:

– the difficulty to find quality permanent employment for adults and seniors with fewer opportunities.

– the difficulty to open new businesses as most of the new businesses started in our communities are not innovative and therefore do not generate sufficient profit or even close quite soon.

– not enough opportunities for our beneficiaries to develop their entrepreneurial intelligence and thus their personal, social and cognitive skills, especially those of innovation and creativity in entrepreneurship.

– inadequate and inaccessible educational opportunities, either online or offline, for developing entrepreneurial intelligence and related creativity in entrepreneurship.

– only 7 out of 42 adult educators (17%) have previous experience with enterprises and use this experience and expertise in their non-formal adult education for employability and entrepreneurship of adults (and seniors) with fewer opportunities.

– only 4 out of 42 (9%) adult educators working with beneficiaries in NF adult education have received any kind of training on the intrapersonal aspect of entrepreneurial intelligence and feel confident in organising educational activities on this topic.

To empower seniors and adults with fewer opportunities in entrepreneurial intelligence and mind-set development (including intrapersonal and interpersonal social-emotional and creativity competences), through development of inspiring, innovative and up-to-date handbook and e-learning courses.

  • Empower our adult educators and improve knowledge management of adult education institutions andorganisations in theory and practice for building competences of adult educators in entrepreneurial mind-set and creativity in entrepreneurship development of citizens, through training courses, innovative Guidebook with curriculum and e-learning courses for adult educators’ training.

  • Exchange good practices and further develop quality strategic partnership among partners from 5 Europeancountries with different realities in regards to citizens’ self-employment and entrepreneurship.

The project proves to be needed/innovative in our communities, also thanks to the transnational contribution ofpartners from different European countries with their different approaches on motivating target groups.

All partners have good practices to showcase and we will learn from each other but also disseminate the learned outcomes to others back home and promote the different practices of entrepreneurship education in adult learning programmes.

The Goal

Project partners are:

  • STICHTING MASTERPEACE, Netherlands
  • Centre for Non-formal education and Lifelong learning (CNELL), Serbia
  • Association for improvement of modern living skills “Realization”, Croatia

What's About

This project addressed the need for strengthened programs for NEET youth/women in the field ofentrepreneurship. In each of the countries involved and throughout Europe in general (and especially among our target groups of immigrants and marginalized groups) girls and young women are less active in business and entrepreneurship, particularly as independent entrepreneurs and business leaders.

For that reason, this project aimed to change this situation by equipping youth organizations and youth workers with tools and approaches they can use to support the entrepreneurship of young women in a way that is socially and culturally appropriate.

The project gathered organizations that already had experiences in supporting young women to be socially and economically active and allowed them to develop new ways of dealing with the challenges they have identified.

With this project, we answered the needs defined by institutions, as well as the needs of our own youth workers and youth. We were promoting social entrepreneurship (for sustainable development and peacebuilding) of NEET youth, women and quality empowerment of our youth workers to be able to organize quality (social) entrepreneurship education for our beneficiaries

Overcoming the limiting realities creatively: Sport methodology in youth Work for inclusion

Overcoming the limiting realities creatively: Sport methodology in youth Work for inclusion

Project Overview

Project: Overcoming the limiting realities creatively: Sport methodology in youth work for inclusion

Duration: 01.03.2020 – 30.11.2021

Reference Nr. 2019-3-DE04-KA205-018829

Grant Amount: 172,206 EUR

Donor: JUGEND für Europa, German National Agency for the Erasmus+ programme

What's About

We applied for this project because in 2019 sport is an area of life in which people with disabilities arguably had less favourable experiences than their non-disabled peers and competitors. Typical barriers for people with disabilities to participate in sport include lacked of awareness on the part of people without disabilities as to how to involve them in teams adequately; lack of opportunities and programmes for training and competition; too few accessible facilities due to physical barriers.

The unique ability of sports to transcend linguistic, cultural and social barriers makes it an excellent platform for strategies of inclusion and adaptation. Through youth sport work and sports, persons without disabilities interact with persons with disabilities in a positive context forcing them to reshape assumptions about what can and cannot do.

NFE educators and youth workers/leaders working with this target group often had little or no experience in using sport as an educational tool. Many didn’t not know how to maximise the potential of sport as a method within their regular youth work, despite of the fact that sport activities can be considered one of the most valuable NFE experiences for children and youngsters.

Partners:

YOUTH POWER GERMANY e.V (DE)

UDRUGA ZA UNAPRJEDENJE SUVREMENIH ZIVOTNIH VJESTINA OSTVARENJE (HR)

KOSARKASKI KLUB “VIRTUS BASKET” (RS) ,

Fondazione Don Giovanni Zanandrea Onlus (IT)

AKTIVNI MLADI U SRECNOJ EVROPI UDRUZENJE (RS)

Wizard, obrt za savjetovanje (HR)

Our project placed the above-mentioned needs and EU Guidelines/policies into action by developing newcurricula and methods for empowering both youth (work) organisations, as well as the sport organisations toincrease their capacity building and human resources for quality envisioning and promoting the physical activity events (youth sport work and sport events) that thus contribute to increasing participation in quality sports by more youngsters, and especially by children and youngsters with disabilities.

Objectives:

– Brought positive and long-lasting effects on participating and indirectly on non-participating organisations byenhancing knowledge management with new innovative youth work and sport resources and trainingmodels/curricula in order to provide quality youth sport work programmes for inclusion of youngsters with different abilities in our communities.

– Supported youth workers and sport trainers in acquiring and developing key competences as youth trainers in the field of using sport methodology in youth work.

– Engage into intensive dissemination and exploitation activities of existing and newly produced products andattract more different abilities’ youngsters.

The Objectives

Project RESULT

We developed Guideline, Curriculum and Toolkit that are originally wrote in English and in the end translated in Croatian, German, Italian and Serbian by our partner staff as well youth workers. We implemented LTTA in Zagreb Croatia. In the end we had 3 national conferences (IT; HR; RS) and one international conference in Berlin , Germany.

Building Sustainable NGOs – a Step by Step Strategy Development and Revision

Building Sustainable NGOs – a Step by Step Strategy Development and Revision

Project Overview

Project: Building Sustainable NGOs – a Step by Step Strategy Development and Revision

Duration: 01.05.2020 – 31.10-2021

Reference Nr. 2020-1-DE04-KA105-019519

Grant Amount: 30,862 EUR

Donor: JUGEND für Europa, German National Agency for the Erasmus+ programme

What's About

The reality of NGO sector is that ensuring sustainability is much harder compared to for-profit companies andprivate sector. Many NGOs are too reliant on governmental grants and funds from international organisations.

Among other things, non-governmental and non-profit organizations are faced with frequent fluctuation of workers due to very stressful and often underpaid work. Loosing experienced and skillful staff can have very negative consequences to organization’s survival.

These negative factors, as well as many others in NGO sector, are a direct result of inadequate strategic planning or, in many cases, none at all. As partner organizations on this project have a good network and knowledge of NGOs in their community, we analyzed current situation and noticed that organizations with long-term existence, good team and strong impact have a Strategy that was skillfully developed and they stick to it in their work.

More importantly, they understand a need to revise their Strategies at least every 5 years, due to changing national and international environment (political, economic, and many other external factors).

Among partners on this project, there are organizations with different profiles and years of existence, but all of them need to improve their strategic planning skills and knowledge. Not just for their own benefit but for them to be able to transfer that renewed knowledge to other organizations within their communities.

– provide tools and knowledge to NGOs to analyze their current capacity and a potential that is not being used, to understand their strengths and weakness, explore both internal and external resources and turn them intorealistic opportunities.

– among all team members and workers, creating a habit of regularly checking their Strategy, creating andexecuting Action plans accordingly. Organizations need to understand that Strategies are there to be used andnot just some documents you need to have on your shelves or websites.

– to learn from each other, exchange knowledge and information about different national situations, build uponshared EU values and good practices and thus improve our partnership’s teamwork and future cooperation

– enhancing abilities and knowledge of our youth workers and providing them opportunities within organizations to put that knowledge to use by organizing workshops for other youth workers and NGO members from local community

The Objectives

Project RESULT

As we concluded the project, it became evident that its impact was multifaceted and significant. Firstly, on a personal level for participants, this project profoundly influenced their motivation and dedication to NGO work and sector. Through researching their sending organizations, and gaining insights into other partner organizations from different European countries, participants were reminded of their initial inspiration for working in the NGO sector. Moreover, their involvement in creating critical documents like strategy plans instilled a sense of responsibility for their organization’s work and activities on both national and EU levels. This project encouraged youth workers and our beneficiaries to expand their focus beyond daily tasks, inspiring them to become change-makers and foster positive changes in their communities.

Participants, particularly those with fewer opportunities, notably enhanced their knowledge and skills in strategy development and organizing training for knowledge transfer. The project enabled them to not only understand the theoretical aspects of strategy development but also to practice and become adept in using the necessary tools. This hands-on experience significantly contributed to their professional development. Additionally, the interaction with young people from different cultures and countries facilitated their personal development. The sessions on “Stages of group development” and “Communication” were particularly beneficial in improving their attitudes and skills for collaborating on complex issues, which will undoubtedly enhance the quality of communication in their future personal and professional lives.

For partner organizations, the project brought about new or improved strategy documents, as well as empowered and motivated youth workers. These strategy documents are anticipated to enhance partners’ relationships with their stakeholders and donors. The organizations now have a clearer understanding of their multiple projects and how these contribute to their general mission and goals. They learned to better prioritize and allocate their time, energy, and resources, maximizing their potential to achieve their missions. The strategy documents enabled these NGOs to focus on more critical matters, paying less attention to less significant projects and initiatives. By guiding them in shifting focus from one project to another, these documents help aim for the bigger picture, leading to increased capacity and efficiency. We believe that with all these positive impacts on the management of human resources, time, and money, the NGOs involved will be better equipped to respond and adjust to the needs of their beneficiaries.

To ensure this impact was sustained, each organization involved at least one beneficiary in the training course. These individuals played a crucial role in guiding the process in a direction that would most benefit the target groups, ensuring that the outcomes of the project were both meaningful and long-lasting.

What´s About

Volunteers are the driving force behind the success of our partner organizations. They provide the motivation and fresh energy needed to execute our programs and activities that benefit local communities. While our organisations are deeply committed to achieving our goals, we sometimes overlook the pivotal role that volunteers play.

It is vital that we shift our focus to recognize the importance of their contributions, as they bring unique perspectives and talents to our initiatives. We acknowledge that volunteers may face challenges such as stress and fluctuations in their numbers, and it is our responsibility to provide support and a nurturing environment.

With this project, our primary objective is to shift our attention to the needs of our volunteers, with a special emphasis on the younger generation of volunteers who form the backbone of our efforts. We recognise the value of non-formal education in their development and are committed to providing them with basic concepts and values that will enrich their volunteering experience and personal growth.

Our aim is to enhance volunteer management by aligning it not only with our organizational goals but also with the unique needs and aspirations of our volunteers. • Enhanced Learning: Participants have had the opportunity to explore Youthpass, gain insights into the new 8 key competences, and develop the skills to set and evaluate their learning objectives. They now have a better understanding of the concepts and values of volunteering, as well as the motivations of volunteers. Furthermore, they have grasped the importance of non-formal education and non-formal learning for volunteers, along with practical knowledge on how to incorporate non-formal learning into volunteers’ programs and daily activities.

  • Erasmus+ Awareness: Our participants have been introduced to the Erasmus+ Programme and have been encouraged to utilize it in the development of their own initiatives within their organizations and communities.

  • Multiplier Effect: We anticipate that at least 80% of the participants will serve as multipliers, actively developing support mechanisms for volunteers within their organizations. These mechanisms will facilitate the learning process and outcomes of volunteers. To ensure continued support, our trainers will provide post-course guidance via the Internet for the next 6 months, assisting participants with any difficulties or doubts they may encounter.

  • Promotion of Volunteering: Participants will continue to work towards promoting volunteering and communicating the benefits it offers to young individuals.

  • Impact on Youth Workers: Other youth workers within our organizations will benefit from the knowledge and experience gained by our participants. They will participate in youth trainings organized by our project’s participants. This increase in knowledge and capacity is expected to result in a higher number of volunteers and a greater variety of activities tailored for youngsters. Consequently, our local communities will enjoy improved quality and quantity of youth activities, leading to long-term and sustainable benefits.

  • Enhanced Quality of Youth Work: The training course has contributed to enhancing the quality of youth work within our organizations, resulting in a more significant impact on local communities. Following the project, thanks to the active engagement of our participants, local communities will benefit from increased quantity and quality of non-formal education (NFE) youth work. This underscores our commitment to long-term and sustainable impact.

What's About

Our project’s core mission revolves around unleashing the transformative potential of volunteering as a catalyst for positive change within our communities. We have achieved this by equipping our members and stakeholders with the essential knowledge and competencies required to engage with volunteers effectively.

Our ultimate goal has been to nurture a more dynamic, interconnected, and influential volunteer community.

Volunteering, we firmly believe, represents an intrinsic strength that not only benefits individuals, groups, and organizations but also has a profound impact on the overall well-being of our local communities.

Beyond serving as a critical resource for NGOs, volunteering carries far-reaching advantages for the volunteers themselves. It plays a pivotal role in fostering a sense of community, countering loneliness, and encouraging social interactions.

Volunteering also serves as a catalyst for the formation of enduring bonds and friendships, enhances self-esteem, enriches educational experiences, and expands future job prospects.

Acknowledging the diverse and substantial benefits of volunteering, it has become imperative for our NGOs to prepare and deliver high-quality, purposeful volunteering experiences.

In response to this critical need, we have meticulously crafted a Training Course. This course’s primary aim is to empower our members, employees, youth workers, and organisational decision-makers with a profound understanding of the fundamental values and principles that underlie volunteering.

– To emphasis importance of providing individual mentoring, coaching and suport to volunteers and empower participants for these roles

– To share challenges in their work and possible solutions for these situations, and to share examples of good practice

– To set goals and commitment for developing the volunteer management puzzle when they get home.

Project RESULT

Our project has successfully trained participants to become proficient youth volunteer managers, reinforcing their commitment to empower volunteers, particularly the youth they work with. This achievement has had a profound impact, not only on the personal and professional development of our volunteers but also on our target groups. Moreover, this comprehensive training course has significantly contributed to enhancing the overall capabilities and quality of partner organizations in the field of youth.

The realized outcomes include equipping youth workers with both practical and theoretical tools and skills to effectively engage volunteers in their activities. This encompasses all aspects of management, including team dynamics, staff and volunteer coordination, needs and capacity assessment, program development, evaluation, and follow-up processes. Additionally, youth workers have emerged from the project with the ability to conceptualize and initiate new projects aimed at involving volunteers and young people in their activities.

The impact of our project extends to reaching and engaging new youth, thereby fostering active European citizenship by promoting and supporting volunteerism within our communities. Furthermore, as a direct result of elevating the quality of volunteering, our projects and programs involving volunteers have become more effective.

Both our staff and volunteers, along with our target groups and local communities, benefit from the invaluable contributions of motivated and highly appreciated volunteers and their meaningful work. Digital Entrepreneurship Start-up for Youth

Digital Entrepreneurship Start-up for Youth

Project Overview

Project: Digital Entrepreneurship Start-up for Youth

Duration: 1.4.2020 – 31.12.2021

Reference Nr. 2019-3-UK01-KA205-077785

Grant Amount: 200,769 EUR

Donor: JUGEND für Europa, German National Agency for the Erasmus+ programme

What's About

The project responded to high youth unemployment across Europe by encouraging and equipping young people to pursue digital entrepreneurship as a sustainable career path. Traditional “offline” businesses often fail in the digital era, making digital entrepreneurship a more viable option for long-term success.

Through surveys, young people identified a lack of digital business competences as a key barrier to self-employment. The project addressed this gap by improving youth ICT/digital skills and entrepreneurial competences through innovative tools and training.

In addition to empowering unemployed youth, the project also strengthened the capacity of youth workers and youth work organisations to mentor and support digital entrepreneurship initiatives. The transnational partnership provided diverse perspectives and allowed for the exchange of good practices.
